Why are we livestreaming ourselves remixing the music of others?

Posted on December 2, 2020 - December 2, 2020 by Rob

Hello there, I just wanted to let you all in on why we are doing this. Unlike Notbad.ie for which I do a lot of writing about the scene I do not have an editor so please be patient with my grammar, That said I made the titles syntax weird so you would actually look at the article.

So we started doing the stream because our 2020 got cancelled due to a bad case of international scale incompetence and of course a virus. This lead to us having to question what the fuck the point of being alive was. We then had to reinvent what a gig even is to temporarily see us through till gigs come back, but now I’ve grown to enjoy it so we’re just gonna keep doin it and making it more interesting over a (long) period.

We decided that after all of the new ways of spreading disinformation in Europe we needed to maybe lay off the hot sauce and play some milder more feel good psych music, music we were going to release anyway but just not this year. We really love playing the heavier stuff though and it will always be in every set. We like to play all of it,we are hideously gluttonous with the types of music we steal from.

All of the circumstances have lead us here. The legal inability to be in one room and of course the inability to play live are huge contributors.

So Tuath has always used jam sections in our sets so we are just treating this like a gig in that “We literally get to play with another band” even though there is a pandemic on. Bands like seeing their music decimated in front of them too. Initially there was no plan to make it any better.I had 0 fucking idea what I was doing and am still the same way.

7 weeks on and I have had Happy out,The Kessler Effect,New Pope,Messyng,Junk Drawer and Cruiser, By the time of writing Fomorian vein will be just around the corner. We will be featuring quite a few other guests by years end and will be doing a “Christmas special” in which we mash all the artists up.

After ten remixes have been completed. They will be collected and released into the wild in aid of “Musicians without borders” as we have noticed an uptick in the presence of science denial and fascism about the place!

Rob(Myself) and Paul(Our drummer) will be on the podcast “What are we at” in a weeks time. it is sure to be a hoot. be sure to take a look over there.

As an Aside :

Be sure to Check out the weekly playlist on notbad.ie containing most of the acts that we have mentioned. the more follows it gets, the better it is for the artists of Ireland in general due to the way spotify’s algorithm works =

Disclaimer =

This Stream is our minimum viable product as in it needs to be as easy as possible to replicate and as technically low scale as possible as to alleviate any live show-stopping events. This has lead to me using Less moving parts in my audio stream so if my voice is a bit shit sounding on air that is why.

Have a listen to our new latest release “mountains and Grooves” Featuring Lunch machine =

Can we please stop Simping on the deftones for ten minutes?

Posted on November 13, 2020 by Rob

I get it! they’ve figured out that if you do the Nirvana thing but with reverb aka “Big heavy” But then “Whoosh” “get the good feeling”.I am tired of album after album, the fucking speculation “Will steph put meaty riffy bois into the mix this time? How much will Chino rob from morissey this time” “Oh did you hear the reverb mixed with the big riff, oh isn’t it beautiful, doesn’t it make your heart go ahhh”. Just release Eros and fuck up pls.

We get it and by-fuck I am grateful for having the opportunity to steal from them but jesus fucking christ. Their albums have 0 staying power. they haven’t since 2007 and you know it. Thats not to say that I’m shitting on diamond eyes, it was good but I can barely remember it whereas I can remember lots of other music from 2010 wholeheartedly looking at holy fuck and caribou here.

My newest gripe with the deftones and probably a bunch of other bands is that they’re letting the dumbass stoner guy talk shit about how much of a flat earther he is(has anybody told him gently that the signature deftones sound where the interpolation sound of strings trying to find their way out of an amplifier just doesn’t fucking work when you are playing too many bass strings, you scientifically illiterate twat Steph)

I listened to the entire Podcast and it had some points grounded in reality with regards the political landscape but jesus it took a nosedive pretty quickly afterwards. This guy is responsible during a really difficult time for his influence on millions of fans who look up to him and he comes out with this shit, this is the type of bullshit that leads you down the garden path to trump land. Did I mention he is a Covid- skeptic?

How the fuck did chino green light this shit? Surely Chino isn’t the boss of anyone but this type of rhetoric is killing people. Like literally fucking killing people, Why hasn’t Chino come out with a Rebuke about this absolute car crash of a statement that is bound to hurt the Deftones for longer than the 1 hour and 49 minute duration of that podcast.

I don’t like to rant on this page but seeing one of my childhood bands Okay such a disastrous thing is not sitting well with me and I just decided to come say it.-Rob

Timeline real-Estate during Covid-19 : A guide for artists and their friends.

Posted on April 1, 2020 by Rob

Hi everybody. Robert the marketer here and not Robert the guy from Tuath/Lunch Machine/Craos (which will be back in action soon) so treat me as if I am a different person for the rest of this. So I see a tonne of content being shared, a lot of my friends are musicians and so a lot of my friends are doing live streams, making content and so on. I can like, share, tag, regram and so on but the thing is: if I keep doing this on my own timeline then it just becomes a contrived platitude with side effects. See people expect certain content from me and they come to my page for it. They tend only to share the videos from my page that have an element of humour in them which is good as that’s our brand. If I share a friend’s acoustic guitar song on my page, my followers will go “WTF is he sharing this for?? I WANT MEMES N BULLSHIT.” If I keep doing it over and over again people are going to stop coming to my page altogether and thus anything I would have shared has suddenly decreased in value.

The thing is, people see right through it when you share something out of support and often just click love react out of the goodness of their hearts which is fine but it’s unfortunately a performative eco system that virtually props up your friends but doesn’t actually do anything, stifling them and leaving them in limbo. This is why we don’t buy likes for our page. If we do this it means down the line we are paying money to advertise to fake profiles in a click farm, it means our data is contaminated. So yeah it makes you feel good and all and it appears supportive, retweeting things from your friends or whatever, but I really feel like we should be using our platforms more effectively.

Here’s what I wanna say: a more constructive use of our time that shows people that you actually know them and genuinely support them is this. Say you see some content that is not your usual thing but you can think of specific people who would enjoy it, don’t broadcast it on your timeline taking up valuable real estate, just tag them in either the comments (which will help the original post far more) or send the content to them directly in a message. These two things are far better! They keep people’s timelines free of things that could be perceived as inapplicable to them and so it keeps the property value high, whilst also giving you the opportunity to send something directly to someone who will genuinely enjoy the thing, instead of it just being lost on whoever scrolls past it in their feed. This requires objectivity and thoughtfulness which are good things to exercise I reckon.

Now all of this might sound cynical or lecturey but I don’t intend it to sound like that at all. I am just saying this because music is already devalued enough, we need to come together here and get things to the right people or not at all because we may actually be doing damage to our friends.

Just think: What are you yourself about? What do people like about you? Play to that, share based on that instead because it will make a far more positive impact, believe me. Anyway, thanks for reading. Hope this is helpful. Have at it in the comments if you wish.

This E.P. and the group are wonderfully cryptic, intelligent, and not afraid to go left of centre and stick it to whoever has a problem with their message.
